Welcome in analogue print heaven. During this workshop, you first receive a general introduction and basic history of the studio and printing techniques. The operation of the various machines is demonstrated, as well as printing materials and possible printing output. Then we gather around the presses to translate your ideas into workable layouts. Browse through our arsenal of wood and lead type, and carefully select the ones most suited for your idea. No specific prior knowledge is required for this workshop, you come a long way with a healthy dose of enthusiasm. Best come prepared: bring a handful of quotes or texts you want to put on paper.

Drawing your own letter shapes offers much more versatility than working with existing typefaces. Customized compositions with words, ‘lockups’, stand out from the crowd and have a vast illustrative value. In this workshop, you learn how letter shapes can interact with each other, overcome type-related obstacles and take your lettering to the next level. You start with a variety of writing tools and finish with a design ready to be digitized.

In this four hour calligraphy workshop, you learn the basics of modern calligraphy, enabling you to express yourself in a playful way. You experiment with different writing tools, strokes and lay-outs in order to find the refinement that suits your style. Don’t forget to bring your toothbrush!

During this workshop, you discover the endless possibilities offered by script lettering. Starting from the basics of formal script letters, you deconstruct and rebuilt the letters, in order to obtain your own unique letter shapes. Get inspired by fat bottom lettering, reversed contrast and a diversity of script lettering drawing techniques. This workshop is not about drawing 'the perfect letter,' but about creating a distinctive design that attracts and inspires.

The weekend workshop 'Move Your Letters' on Saturday and Sunday equip you with knowledge about how to digitize and to animate letters.

Animate Your Letters part 1

On Saturday, you first learn how to draw digital letters with correct paths* in the type design application Glyphs. Thereafter, you experience how those paths react within in animations with letters. That knowledge highly needed for the second day of this workshop.

*This knowledge about paths is of course not only valid for letters, but also for illustrations!

Animate Your Letters part 2

On Sunday, you refine your animation skills with the more advanced tools Python and Drawbot. This workshop is a premiere in Belgium! In a playful way, you create your first animation with a useful set of codes. The code you write in this workshop forms a base that you can easily re-use later on in your designs!

The Saturday evening lectures provide alternative perspectives on type, inviting you to allow a shift in your look at letters, as a new source of inspiration for your designs.
